The Fantasy of California School Funding
Education is one of the biggest issues in this year’s argument over the state budget. CTA says the Governor is “cutting” education because he’s not giving it everything they think it is entitled to. The Governor says he’s inceased funding by $2.9B (yep, Billions).
I loved this article by Jill Stewart in the Sacramento News and Review.
She points out that the majority of California residents don’t have a clue when it comes to understanding education funding.
Despite the rhetoric from NEA, CTA, UTF or insert your favorite education union here, California is not at the bottom of the pack on education spending. Spending is not the problem nor the solution. The solution is changing what is going on in district offices and classrooms across the state. Let’s look at what is working in other schools and try to incorporate that in our school. Let’s look at what the data is telling us and base our decisions on that, not on which program is most popular in Sacramento.
