Leaving old things behind
This inaugural post is evidence of some changes in my blogging world.
First, I’m moving my blog to a new domain — DavidJohnston.org. I acquired the domain for my doomed run for re-election to my local school board. The election is over and so I didn’t really need the name for anything political.
My blog has previously lived under a couple other names. First it was “Friends of Dave”, which actually came from a conversation with my liberal sister. We were trying to think of a domain name to register for my blog and we came up with the idea that I was such a “Tivoholic” that I needed a 12-step program. So, instead of “Friends of Bill W.”, my site was “Friends of Dave“.
On a day when my frustrations with the problems in public education had reached a new high, I thought maybe I should get the villagers with pitchforks and torches to storm the local school district office. As a result, AngryVillagers.net was born. But after spending a term as a school board member, I’m probably more frustrated with public education, but I’m not really as angry any more. So I decided it was time to make a change.
Second, for many years I’ve used Drupal as my Content Management System of choice. While I still like Drupal, I’ve heard some good things about WordPress and I decided that I wanted to try something a little different. If I get frustrated with WordPress, I can always move back to Drupal or move on to something else. That’s the fun of being a geek.
So, today is a new beginning of my blogging life. Welcome! Please feel free to participate. I’d love to see your comments and questions!

I tried to “+1″ this first post but the button doesn’t work. :/
Griff, I noticed that too. Apparently for Firefox to make the +1 button work you have to allow third-party cookies to work. Once I turned on that option, it works fine.
