Bill Cosby in San Francisco
I enjoyed reading this San Francisco Chronicle article about Bill Cosby’s recent visit to a SF Unified “Dream School” in the Bayview-Hunter’s Point area.
You probably remember that the Cos took some heat for comments he made in May in Washington DC, calling on African Americans to stop being victims.
He said that the involvement of parents is critical to student success. “Parents are 99 percent,” he said. “School districts don’t parent. They teach.”
I think this quote summed up what I think his point is.
- “I think we’re past the furor part now,” he said. “It’s a movement now that needs to happen. … It’s time for people to just stop seeing themselves so much as victims, so much in poverty, and realize what education does and fight for it like you’re fighting for your life — and you are because that’s what our children are.”
